Unfortunate start to Carles Pérez’s time in Greece after dog attack

Carles Pérez’s move to Greek football has taken an unexpected turn after the Spanish winger, recently loaned from Celta Vigo to Aris Thessaloniki, was hospitalised due to a serious injury caused by a dog bite. The incident occurred shortly after his transfer was confirmed on 10 July.

According to a report by Gazzetta Gr, Pérez sustained a bite to his groin area and required six stitches. His condition is reported as serious, and he remains under close observation in a private medical facility in Thessaloniki.

The incident happened in Thermi, a suburb of Thessaloniki, where Pérez currently resides. While out walking his own dog, another dog attacked, prompting Pérez to intervene in an attempt to protect his pet. In the process, he suffered a deep injury to his genital region.

Aris Thessaloniki later confirmed to the Greek press that their new signing had been taken to a private clinic for treatment and is being closely monitored by medical professionals. No clear timeline has been provided for his recovery, but his return to the pitch is not expected in the immediate future.

Greece was meant to be a new chapter in Pérez’s career. He had made his debut for Aris on 24 July during the first leg of the UEFA Conference League second qualifying round. The transfer had been seen as a promising fresh start, especially as he joined the club alongside Ruben Reyes, the sporting director at Aris with whom he had previously worked at Getafe.

However, this unfortunate incident has cast a shadow over his early days in Thessaloniki, leaving fans and teammates concerned about his recovery and return to form.
