Buttigieg and Schembri win opening race of National Time Trial Championship 2025

Aidan Buttigieg (Team Polti Visit Malta) and Deborah Schembri (Gozo CC) were the winners of the opening race in this year’s National Time Trial Championship, one of two national events organised by the Malta Cycling Federation. The race took place on the Coast Road in Salini, covering four laps for a total of 20km.

In the Elite category, Aidan Buttigieg came first with a time of 31:47. Luke Borg (The Cyclist by Agones) was second in 32:36, while Daniel Briffa (Bike It Up Racing) placed third with 32:39.

In the Women’s category, Deborah Schembri dominated, finishing first in 37:06. Michelle Vella Wood (Team Greens) came second, and Diana Muscat (also Team Greens) came third with 40:40.

In the Masters 40+, Joaquin Rojas (Team Greens) won with a time of 34:26. He was followed by Mark Zammit (Mosta CC) in 35:02 and Gesred Borg (Team Greens) in 36:14.

In the Masters 50+, David Cushing (Bike It Up Racing) came first in 37:17, followed by Kevin Muscat (Bike It Up Racing) in 37:30 and David Galea (Gozo CC) in 38:57.

In the Junior category, Kai Azzopardi (The Cyclist by Agones) won in 40:03.

In the Under-16 Boys, Ethan Grech (Mosta CC) won with a time of 31:51. He was followed closely by Aidan Muscat (Shamrock Stars) in 31:54, and Samwel Attard (Mosta CC) in 36:26.

In the Under-16 Girls, Rihanna Hassan (Team Greens) took first place in 50:04.

In the Under-14 Boys, Gao Ping (Mosta CC) won his two-lap race in 18:58, followed by Neil Cassar (Shamrock Stars) in 19:19 and Jake Refalo (Shamrock Stars) in 19:25.

In the Under-14 Girls, Nina Debono Curmi (Shamrock Stars) won in 21:47. Katie Anne Vella Wood (Team Greens) came second in 22:55, and Amy St John (Mosta CC) came third in 27:39.

In the Under-12 Boys, Mosta CC dominated. Kurt Grech won the race in 12:46, followed by teammates Zacchery Vella (13:28.20) and Raphael Buhagiar (13:28.84).

The next race will take place this coming Sunday at the San Martin circuit as part of the Road Championship.
