The Malta Cycling Federation recently held its Annual Awards Dinner, marking the conclusion of the domestic cycling season with the presentation of honours across all competitive categories. The evening recognised cyclists who achieved notable results during the season, while Team Greens were also awarded the Elite Aggregate Cup and the Overall Aggregate Cup for their consistent performances.
The awards were presented by Malta Cycling Federation president John Zammit, assisted by general secretary Joe Bajada and technical director Etienne Bonello. The event brought together athletes, officials and club representatives to celebrate another active year for Maltese cycling.
In his address, Zammit described the past season as a demanding one and outlined plans for an even busier calendar ahead. He explained that changes will be introduced following guidance from the Union Cycliste Internationale, which requires national championships to be decided over a single race. As a result, the local season will be divided into two main parts, consisting of the National Championships and the National Club Series. Under this structure, each club will be required to organise at least one race during the season.
Zammit noted with satisfaction that some clubs have already expressed interest in hosting more than one event, describing this as a positive sign for the development of the sport. He also highlighted the growing participation of young riders in age group categories and thanked parents and club officials for their continued support. He concluded by expressing appreciation for the work carried out by general secretary Joe Bajada and extended festive greetings and best wishes for the new year to all cyclists, officials and their families.
The Malta Cycling Federation also thanked all cyclists and club officials for their contribution throughout the season. Appreciation was extended to ARRTs Timing System for their services, as well as to local councils, Transport Malta, the police, Emergency First Response teams, volunteers, timekeepers and marshals who assisted during events.
The Road Race National Championship winners for 2025 were as follows. In the Elite category, the title was won by Aidan Buttigieg of Team Polti VisitMalta. Diana Muscat of Team Greens claimed the Ladies title. Gesred Borg of Team Greens won the Masters 40 category, while David Cushing of Bike it Up Racing secured the Masters 50 title. Ryan Gatt of The Cyclist by Agones won the Juniors category. Ethan Grech of Mosta Cycling Club claimed the Under 16 boys title, while Rihanna Hassan of Team Greens won the Under 16 girls category. Neil Cassar of Shamrock Stars Sports Club won the Under 14 boys title, with Nina Debono Curmi of D Sports Lab taking the Under 14 girls honour. Kurt Grech of Mosta Cycling Club won the Under 12 boys category, while Valeria Barbara of The Cyclist by Agones claimed the Under 12 girls title.
The Time Trial National Championship winners for 2025 were also announced during the evening. Aidan Buttigieg of Team Polti VisitMalta completed a double by winning the Elite title. Michelle Vella Wood of Team Greens won the Ladies category. Mark Zammit of Mosta Cycling Club claimed the Masters 40 title, while David Cushing of Bike it Up Racing won the Masters 50 category.
