Hamburg celebrated their long-awaited return to the Bundesliga after six years with a dominant 6–1 victory over Ulm.
However, the festivities quickly descended into chaos. Despite warnings, more than 56,000 fans stormed the pitch at the Volksparkstadion, climbing over barriers and causing unrest. What began as euphoria turned into violent clashes and vandalism, forcing police to intervene to stop fans from reaching the players’ dressing room.
The aftermath was severe: 44 people required medical attention, including five with minor injuries, 19 seriously hurt, and one person in critical condition.
