Aidan Buttigieg and Diana Muscat make it three in a row

Aidan Buttigieg (Team Polti Visit Malta) and Diana Muscat (Team Greens) both claimed their third straight win in the final race of the 2025 National Road Championship, one of Malta’s two major national road cycling events, organised by the Malta Cycling Federation.

The race took place on a 2.5km circuit in Fleur-de-Lys. The Elite riders completed 20 laps, Women and Masters 12 laps, Juniors 6, Under 16s 6, Under 14s 4, and Under 12s did 2 laps.

In the Men’s Elite race, Aidan Buttigieg won again in an exciting sprint finish, clocking 1:19:30. He just edged out Jacob Schembri (Bike It Up Racing), who was one second behind. Mark Bonnici (The Cyclists by Agones) placed third in 1:19:32.

In the Women’s race, Diana Muscat (Team Greens) put in another strong showing to finish first in 48:47:49. Teammate Michelle Vella Wood was second in 55:21:28, followed by Jess Rymer (D Sports Lab) in 57:38:21.

Arek Kawalec (Team Greens) won the Masters 40+ category in 46:51:79, narrowly beating Liran Ben Ari (The Cyclists by Agones) and Gesred Borg.

In Masters 50+, David Cushing (Bike It Up Racing) also secured his third victory with a time of 46:52:63. David Galea (Gozo CC) and Stephen Grima (D Sports Lab) finished second and third.

Ryan Gatt (The Cyclists by Agones) took the Juniors category in 32:14:06.

Ethan Grech (Mosta CC) won the Under 16 Boys’ race in 27:34:68, ahead of teammate Samwel Attard. Rihanna Hassan (Team Greens) won the Girls’ category in 41:35:59.

Neil Cassar (Shamrock Stars) won the Under 14 Boys’ race in 16:21:29. Ethan Cumbo and Matthew Agius (both Mosta CC) placed second and third. Nina Debono Curmi (D Sports Lab) won the Girls’ race in 18:27:91, just ahead of Katie Anne Vella Wood (Team Greens).

Kurt Grech (Mosta CC) won the Under 12 Boys’ race in 10:15:44, with teammates Zachary Vella and Raphel Buhagiar close behind. Valeria Barbara (The Cyclists by Agones) won the Girls’ race in 11:27:91, followed by Katie Anne Vella Wood (Team Greens).

The final two races of the season will be Time Trial events – the first on Sunday, 6 July 2025, in Fleur-de-Lys, and the last on Sunday, 13 July 2025, in Miżieb.
