Swieqi United have made history by winning their first Assikura Women’s League title after beating Birkirkara 3-0 on Saturday at the Dingli Ground.
Karima Abdulai opened the scoring for Swieqi in the 13th minute. Rafanny Mendoza added a second goal in the 78th minute, and Ema Micallef sealed the win with a third goal just seven minutes from the end.
This is Swieqi’s first league title, and it marks the end of Birkirkara’s long-time dominance in the competition. Birkirkara had won the league every season since 2016/17, except in 2020/21 when the season was cancelled due to COVID.
