Swieqi United defeat Birkirkara, Hibernians reclaim top spot in Assikura Women’s League

Swieqi United secured a dramatic 2-0 victory over defending champions Birkirkara in the Assikura Women’s League, claiming their first win of the season and making amends for their 4-1 defeat to the same side earlier in the campaign. Ghanaian duo Salamatu Abdulai and Karima Abdulai were the match-winners for Dorianne Theuma’s side, scoring a goal each in the first half to help Swieqi rise to 22 points, level with Birkirkara.

In the other matches, Hibernians bounced back from last week’s shock defeat to Mġarr United with a comprehensive 5-0 win over Mtarfa. The Paolites regained top spot in the league thanks to goals from Nicole Sciberras, Rodianne Zerafa, Leah Ayres, and Alexis Espitia.

Mġarr United continued their strong run with a convincing 4-0 win over Valletta, with Valeria Villegas and Yulya Carella both finding the net. The Greens also remain in the hunt for the top spots, with Mġarr now just two points behind Hibernians and Swieqi.

Meanwhile, San Ġwann enjoyed a dominant 7-0 victory over Lija Athletic. Hailey Russell stole the show, scoring five goals, while Tourki Chaimaa and Nanako Kobayashi also found the back of the net, putting San Ġwann in a strong position in the table.
