Grech goal keeps Mġarr United perfect as Swieqi and Birkirkara win big

Mġarr United stayed unbeaten at the summit of the Assikura Women’s League with a 1-0 win over Hibernians, while Swieqi United and Birkirkara recorded emphatic victories to keep the title race lively.

Mġarr struck early through Amber Grech and then showed composure and discipline to manage the contest to the finish. The result makes it five wins from five for Ryan Vella’s side, who move to 15 points and remain three clear of reigning champions Swieqi United ahead of a top-of-the-table meeting next week. Hibernians slip to third on nine points.

Swieqi kept pace with a 6-1 success against Valletta, powered by a second-half hat trick from Salamatu Abdulai. Aleksandra Yaneva and Tammy Falzon had already set the tempo before Sara Saliba added the sixth late on, with Shakira Bugeja replying for Valletta.

Birkirkara underlined their attacking depth in a 7-2 victory at San Ġwann. Patricia Lamanna and Izabella Camilleri both scored twice, with Haruhi Sekura, Maya Pellegrini and Mariah Cardona completing the tally. Morena Fanega struck both goals for the hosts.

The Assikura Women’s Youth League also continued with Matchday 6 fixtures.
