The Maltese Olympic Committee, represented by Olympic Academy members Edmund Mifsud and Maria Zammit, took part in the Olympic Values Education Programme, which recently took place in Birstonas, Lithuania. The event was organised by the Lithuanian Olympic Committee, in partnership with Olympic Solidarity and the EU Erasmus+ Programme.
This international event brought together 17 representatives from National Olympic Committees and Olympic Academies, all working to deepen their understanding of sports values such as Friendship, Excellence, Respect, Solidarity, Inclusion, and Equality.

The workshops, led by a professional team, included physical activities, team-building exercises, observations, and reflections, all based on important educational experiences. The programme focused on hands-on learning, with an emphasis on developing informal education methods based on values, education, and cultures. Participants worked in small groups to improve their skills in creating programmes, which they could later implement in their own countries through various sports disciplines.
David Azzopardi, Chair of the Maltese Olympic Academy, said, “The OVEP training programme is an invaluable tool that will help us strengthen our efforts to promote Olympic Values and implement new strategies through the programmes run by the Maltese Olympic Committee.”
