The Maltese Olympic Committee (MOC) held its Elective General Assembly this evening at its headquarters to appoint a new Secretary General, in accordance with Clause 11.13 of the MOC Statute.
Following the voting process, Joseph Cassar was elected Secretary General with 55 votes. The other candidates, Sue Mercieca and Jean Claude Micallef, each received 20 votes.
Cassar will now take on responsibility for supporting the MOC’s strategic and administrative functions, working closely with the Executive Board to further strengthen the organisation’s role in developing and promoting sport in Malta.
In addition to the Secretary General election, members also voted to fill a Director position that became vacant following the appointment of David Azzopardi as Deputy President earlier this year. Daniel Tabone was elected to the role with 50 votes, ahead of John Vella who received 45 votes.

The MOC extended its appreciation to all candidates for their commitment and willingness to contribute to the continued advancement of Maltese sport.
The Committee also paid tribute to outgoing Secretary General Kevin Azzopardi, expressing its gratitude for his invaluable contribution, dedication, and service to the organisation throughout his tenure.
