The opening week of the 2025/26 Futsal Malta League provided a thrilling spectacle, with four matches producing an astonishing 49 goals. From the first whistle, teams demonstrated intent, quality, and a hunger to make their mark on the new season.
Marsaskala Futsal Legends set the bar high, dispatching Malta FA Futsal Selection 7–0 in a commanding display. Gia Nikvashvili’s hat-trick, supported by Liam Caruana’s brace and further goals from Lozada Motta Miller Estiben and Milijic Jovica, left no doubt about Marsaskala’s ambitions.
The University of Malta Students sent an equally emphatic message, overwhelming the Malta FA Selection U18 with a 12–0 rout. Cleaven Portelli and Cristian Jose Fernandez each netted four, with Emil Andrei Raducu and Andres Felipe Aguilera Linares adding two apiece, underlining the Students’ credentials as serious contenders.

Birżebbuġa St. Peter’s joined the list of early frontrunners with a 7–0 victory over Sliema Futsal Fort Fitness. Goals were shared across the squad, with Carlos Stiven Alarcon Rojas, Dylan Mintoff, and Cristian Camilo Diaz Montanez on the scoresheet, while Lender Sebastian Lara Obando and Braham Garcia Espinosa each bagged a brace.
The week’s standout result came from reigning champions Luxol St Andrews, who delivered a masterclass in attacking futsal, dismantling Santa Venera Lightnings 22–1. Celino Alves De Freitas led with four goals, while the rest of the Luxol squad contributed across the board. For Santa Venera, Alejandro Vargas provided the lone consolation.
Looking ahead, next week’s fixtures promise further excitement, including the much-anticipated debut of the Enemed Women’s Futsal League. With such a high-scoring start, the stage is set for a captivating season in Maltese futsal.
