Tarxien Rainbows have issued a formal statement expressing concern over several refereeing decisions taken during the current season, which, they believe, have had a direct impact on results.
The club noted that there have been several occasions in which the team felt it was penalised following decisions that, in its view as well as that of sections of the sporting public and some senior figures within Maltese football, were open to different interpretation.
Particular reference was made to the recent match against Gżira United, where Tarxien said certain decisions taken during the course of the game had a direct influence on the final outcome. The club emphasised that these observations were being made with a sense of responsibility and full respect towards the institutions and match officials involved, and not with the intention of undermining their role.
In its statement, Tarxien highlighted the considerable financial sacrifices made to ensure the team can compete at the highest possible level, alongside the long hours of disciplined training and commitment from players and technical staff. Within this context, the club said it felt it was inappropriate for such work and dedication to be potentially compromised by decisions that could prove decisive in a match.
Tarxien reaffirmed its belief in sporting integrity, fairness and transparency, while expressing hope for continued consistency and clarity in the application of the laws of the game in the interest of football and the wider sporting community.
