Ħamrun Spartans comfortably beat Naxxar Lions 4-0 thanks to braces from Joseph Mbong and substitute Damir Ceter, in a match they controlled from start to finish. Naxxar did create a few chances, forcing goalkeeper Henry Bonello into a fine save in the first half and hitting the post early in the second half.
Ħamrun took the lead in the 25th minute when Shaisen Attard delivered a cross from the right and Joseph Mbong headed the ball into the net from close range to make it 1-0. Mbong struck again in the 41st minute, finishing calmly after a cross from the left by Danilo Bulevardi to double the lead.
Early in the second half, Naxxar had a chance from a free-kick taken by Theo Seara Kruger, which hit the woodwork and was cleared. In the 56th minute, Ħamrun made it 3-0 when Mbong crossed the ball and substitute Damir Ceter scored from close range.
Ceter added his second goal in the 68th minute, finishing well in front of goal to complete a convincing 4-0 win.
Late in the game, January signings Michele Carboni and Ivan Inzoudine made their debuts for Ħamrun Spartans after coming on as substitutes.
With this win, Ħamrun moved temporarily to the top of the table with 11 points.
