At the Tony Bezzina Stadium on Tuesday, two matches from the Bottom 6 of the YoHealth Malta Premier League delivered drama and decisive outcomes.
In the opening match, Sliema Wanderers secured their place among the top sides for next season with a narrow 1-0 victory over Birkirkara. After a goalless first half, the breakthrough came in the 54th minute when Steve Pisani found the net with a direct free-kick. The Blues then held firm defensively to see out the win.
The second encounter, the Derby of the South, provided plenty of excitement as Tarxien Rainbows edged past neighbours Hibernians 3-2 in a thrilling contest.
Marko Musulin opened the scoring for Tarxien after 10 minutes, but Natha Mullen equalised just nine minutes later. Charleston then put Hibernians ahead in the 22nd minute before Claudio Henrique restored parity for the Rainbows in stoppage time of the first half.
The decisive moment came in the 61st minute when Angel Jesus Ledezma scored what proved to be the winner, sealing a crucial victory for Tarxien as they continue their fight to avoid relegation.
