Hibernians and Tarxien Rainbows gained a point each after a 1-1 draw at the Tony Bezzina Stadium in the opening match of Matchday 5 of the YoHealth Malta Premier.
This was Tarxien’s first point in the closing round as they try to avoid finishing in the bottom two at the end of Phase 2.
Hibernians took the lead in the 16th minute when January signing Matthew Debattista fired a shot from inside the box. Tarxien goalkeeper Andrea Cassar got a fingertip to it, but the ball was too powerful and went into the net. The score remained 1-0 until half-time.
Tarxien looked more confident after the break and created several chances, with Hibernians keeper Branescu making some important saves.
Tarxien deservedly levelled in the 78th minute. A free kick from the left by Da Silva Barbosa found Austrian new signing Patrick Schmidt, who headed the ball which was deflected by Bjorn Kristensen and went into the net, making the final score 1-1.
