Floriana won the Old Firm Derby after beating Sliema Wanderers 2-1 at the National Stadium. With this victory, the Greens opened a seven-point lead at the top of the table and moved closer to winning the Opening Round of the YoHealth Malta Premier.
Floriana took the lead in the 10th minute through Jake Grech, who scored from the penalty spot.
Sliema were reduced to ten men in the 36th minute when Alcino was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.
Floriana doubled their lead in the 40th minute, with Mendonca finding the net.
Sliema pulled one back early in the second half from Roko Prsa, but it was not enough to stop Floriana from taking all three points.
