Lazio dealt a serious blow to AC Milan’s Serie A title hopes on Sunday evening, claiming a hard-fought 1-0 victory at the Stadio Olimpico. It was a result that left Massimiliano Allegri’s side eight points adrift of league leaders Inter Milan, having squandered a golden opportunity to close the gap after Inter were held to a draw by Atalanta the previous day.
It was Gustav Isaksen who settled the contest, netting the only goal of the match in the 26th minute. The Dane latched onto a long pass from Adam Marušić, shrugged off Estupiñán, and drilled a left-footed finish into the far corner to give the home side the lead.
Milan huffed and puffed in search of an equaliser, with Christian Pulisic their likeliest source of inspiration, though he was unable to convert his chances on the night. Rafael Leão was also well below his best and was hauled off by Allegri before the final whistle, departing the pitch in what appeared to be a rather fractious exchange with his manager.

Zachary Athekame thought he had drawn Milan level with a tidy finish from a Modrić corner, but the effort was disallowed after he was adjudged to have handled the ball in the build-up. Modrić himself then blazed over late on as Milan pressed desperately for something to show for their efforts.
In the end, it was not to be. Lazio, who also had manager Maurizio Sarri sent off in stoppage time, collected back-to-back league wins for the first time since February 2025 and climbed to ninth in the table. For Milan, it was only their third league defeat of the season, but coming at such a critical moment, it may well prove to be a costly one.
