Lazio earned their first Serie A win of the season in style, beating Hellas Verona 4-0. Taty Castellanos was the standout performer, scoring once and providing two assists, as Lazio extended their unbeaten run against Verona to eight matches.
After a poor start to the season with a loss to Como, Lazio were keen to bounce back, and they did so quickly. Just three minutes in, Mattéo Guendouzi put them ahead with a calm finish after a clever assist from Castellanos. Seven minutes later, Castellanos set up captain Mattia Zaccagni, who used to play for Verona, to make it 2-0 with a smart strike.
Verona nearly pulled one back when Antoine Bernède hit the post, but their hopes faded just before half-time. Castellanos headed in a third goal from a Nicolò Rovella free-kick, giving Lazio full control of the match.
After the break, Lazio kept pushing. Matteo Cancellieri missed a great chance for a fourth, and Castellanos fired just wide from long range. Guendouzi thought he had scored again, but his goal was ruled out for offside.
Verona’s Bernède tried to grab a late goal, but Lazio’s defence stood firm. In the final moments, Boulaye Dia made it 4-0 with a simple tap-in after a good cross from Reda Belahyane.
It was a comfortable night for Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri, whose team have now won four in a row against Verona. Meanwhile, Verona’s four-match unbeaten run came to an end, and coach Paolo Zanetti will have lots to think about if they want to improve on last season’s 14th-place finish.
