Former Brazilian football player Pele’s illness has advanced, the hospital where the legendary Brazilian is being treated announced.
His daughter took to social media to inform Pele’s fans that she will be spending Christmas in the hospital.
The BBC reported a statement from the “Albert Einstein” hospital in Sao Paulo, which said that Pele had “progressed cancer that requires more attention in connection with kidney and heart dysfunction.”
He had a colon tumor removed in September 2021 and has been receiving regular treatment since then.
“Our Christmas at home has failed. We decided with the doctors that, for various reasons, it would be better to stay here with all the care that this new family provides us at the Albert Einstein Hospital”, wrote his daughter Kely Nascimento on Instagram.
Immediately after he was admitted, a hospital in Sao Paulo announced that the legendary Brazilian “had a good response to treatment for respiratory infections” and added that he was undergoing a “re-evaluation of chemotherapy”.
