Three-time winner of the Euroleague and one of the most experienced basketball players of Olympiakos Kostas Sloukas spoke before the match with Red Star in the 15th round of the Euroleague.
He summed up his impressions after a narrow defeat in the previous round against Asvel.
“It’s something we keep repeating. For me personally, it’s something I can’t forget. We were, theoretically, guaranteed to win, we played badly for 15 minutes and that erased the bad game up to that point.
This is something we have to fix, which we have been talking about since the beginning of the season. With all that said, you journalists have a way of making the situation even more difficult for us. Sometimes we lose, this is the way we lose, so we should fix it”, said Sloukas.
Sloukas then turned to the next rival, Red Star from Belgrade.
“It will be a difficult match because Red Star is in a good rush. They play very aggressively in defense, they play smart and that’s why they have achieved so many victories. But I think that if we stay focused and stick to a strong defense, everything will be fine. With all due respect to Red Star, we are also in good shape and we have to take advantage of that.”
Like coach Bartzokas, Sloukas also wanted to divert his mind from the derby match against Panathinaikos.
“We are not thinking about Panathinaikos at all, everyone is focused on the match with Red Star. The derby with Panathinaikos is important, that’s for sure, it has its own uniqueness and is in a class of its own, but we want to beat Red Star and then we’ll talk about the next game,” concluded Sloukas.
