The Austrian league match between Reid and Wolfsberger saw one of the most spectacular own goals this season, and perhaps in the history of football.
Last placed Ried took a 2:0 lead with goals from Croatian internationals Mikic and Plavotic, and then in the last attack of the match, their footballer Matthias Gragger decided to find himself in the world media.
Wolfsberger attacked the whole match and tried to reach the guests’ advantage, which was made in the first half, but he did not manage to reach the goal until the Ried defender got to the ball.
He managed to score an own goal from an incredible distance!
For some reason, he tried to return the ball to his goalkeeper from the opponent’s half of the field, he shot the ball hard towards his own goal and completely caught his goalkeeper Samuel Sahin-Radlinger. The goalkeeper was not ready for this and the ball flew over him!
This did not affect the result because the referee soon played the end of the match and all three points were left to Ried who, despite this, remained last in the table. However, lobbing his goalkeeper from the opponent’s half will be remembered.
