The Malta Football Referees Association (MFRA) held its Annual General Meeting yesterday evening at the Centenary Hall, drawing an impressive 72% of its membership to vote in the election for a new Executive Committee.
Trustin Farrugia Cann secured a renewed term as President with a convincing victory, receiving 71 votes compared to 12 for his opponent, Matthew De Gabriele. The existing leadership team also retained their roles, with Ishmael Barbara re-elected as General Secretary, Luke Portelli as Vice President, and Kurt Saliba as Treasurer.
This outcome represents an overwhelming 86% endorsement of the current administration, reinforcing the confidence MFRA members continue to place in the leadership team’s direction and dedication to the refereeing profession in Malta.
The strong voter participation further underlines the active engagement and solidarity within the Association, reflecting a collective commitment to its continued progress and development.
Newly elected to the Executive Committee as ordinary members are Paula Buttigieg, Maxlee Muscat, Slobodan Petrovic, Duncan Spencer, and Reuben Spiteri. This refreshed leadership group is poised to build on recent achievements and advance representation and support for match officials at all levels of the game.
The MFRA extended its gratitude to Mr. Mitchell Scerri, Mr. Peter Abela, and Mr. Mark Ciantar, who formed the independent electoral board. Their professionalism ensured a fair and transparent election process. Thanks were also given to Mr. Stefan Pace and Mr. Duncan Sultana for their ongoing roles as the Association’s auditors.
The Association concluded by thanking all members who participated in the AGM and expressed their confidence in the elected team. This renewed mandate serves as a strong motivator for the MFRA to continue its mission to protect, develop, and empower referees across Malta.
