Barcelona faces legal chaos over Olmo transfer

Chaos at Barcelona. The commercial court number 10 in the Catalan city has decided to reject the lawsuit filed by the club under President Laporta against La Liga.

As a result, the club will not be able to re-register the contracts of Pau Victor and Dani Olmo, the latter having joined last summer from Leipzig for a hefty 60 million euros.

Laporta will now have to find an alternative solution to resolve this complex situation by 31st December. Without a resolution, the Spanish playmaker will be free to move to a new club starting from 1stJanuary 2025, as per a clause in his contract.

The court has sided with La Liga’s argument, which claims that Barcelona is not complying with the national Financial Fair Play regulations. This was unexpected, given that in the past, judges had ruled in favour of the Blaugrana. For example, two years ago, when Gavi’s contract renewal was successfully registered.

Laporta had hoped that the recent sponsorship agreement with Nike would improve the club’s finances and help secure a positive outcome in court.

However, this has not been the case, and now Barcelona risks facing a major embarrassment. The next key date is the 30th December, when another case will be heard in the First Instance Court.

The Spanish club has filed another lawsuit against La Liga, as they believe the rules regarding player registration are determined by La Liga’s Executive Commission, which they argue is not competent in this matter.
