UEFA has mandated that Dutch side Twente partially close their stadium for their next European match due to racist behavior from supporters during a recent game. The decision follows an incident involving Lazio winger Loum Tchaouna, who experienced racist abuse from Twente fans during their Europa League match on October 24.
As a result, Twente must close part of De Grolsch Veste stadium when they face Union Saint-Gilloise on November 28. The club has also been fined €40,000 (£33,490).
In related news, the Hungarian Football Federation has been punished for racist behavior by its supporters during a Nations League match, facing a ban on selling away tickets for their next Uefa competition match and a €20,000 (£16,745) fine. Bosnia-Herzegovina’s national federation has also been penalized with a fine and a partial stadium closure for similar infractions.
Additionally, several national federations, including Serbia, Estonia, and Georgia, have received fines, with Serbia and Georgia facing potential partial closures if they violate UEFA’s regulations again within a two-year probationary period.
