Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag explained the Frenchman’s injury.
At Manchester United, Anthony Martial has developed a reputation as an injury-prone player who spends more time on the bench than on the pitch.
Despite being cleared to play against Crystal Palace, he was again on the bench. The Frenchman picked up an injury after the match against Nottingham Forest but managed to recover in time for the match against Palace, although he appeared to have picked up another injury and missed the game.
Martial has missed a total of 18 games this season, most of them due to muscle problems.
At the press conference, Erik Ten Hag provided the latest information about the 27-year-old’s frequent injuries.
Erik, has there ever been a point where you can no longer rely on Martial? This is a constant thing when you have him on the team and then he’s gone. What is his problem?
He is not always available. Also, I see another side when he is available, and he was never 100 percent this season. But he makes a big impact every time he’s available, even when he’s at 80, 85 or 90 percent. So we do everything and Anthony Martial does everything.
I think Anthony Martial is the player who spends the most hours at Carrington this season. It’s really a shame for him and for us. He is disappointed and not always available as we would like. This will improve our game because the routines cannot continue when you are not always available.
Is there an injury that keeps happening?
“Not. “Every time it’s in a different area.” – said Ten Hag
What is it at this moment?
“Right now it’s his hip.” – Ten Hag added.
Manchester United were forced to look for a striker in the market after Ronaldo left as relying on Martial alone was ineffective.
Although Wout Weghorst was bought on loan from Burnley, the team will still be looking for a proven goalscorer. Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen have both been linked with the club for summer moves.
It is still unclear, however, who the club will spend its summer transfer budget on.
