Arsenal moved up to second in the Premier League table after Kai Havertz’s first-half goal gave them a hard-fought 1-0 win over Ipswich Town. This was their 14th consecutive home game without defeat this season, with 11 wins and three draws.
In the first league meeting between the two sides since 2002, Arsenal started stronger, with Jurriën Timber having a low shot saved by Ipswich’s goalkeeper Arijanet Muric. The hosts kept pressing, and their efforts paid off in the 23rd minute when Leandro Trossard’s cross was finished by Havertz from close range, giving the German his 12th goal of the season.

Arsenal continued to push for a second goal, but Gabriel Jesus, starting his third consecutive match for the first time since December 2023, had a goal ruled out for offside. That was Arsenal’s best chance to extend their lead in a tight first half, with Ipswich’s defence holding strong to keep the score at 1-0.
The second half began in a similar way, with Arsenal missing a great chance to double their lead when Gabriel headed a free kick wide. As the game progressed, Arsenal continued to press, but Muric made important saves to deny Martin Ødegaard and Mikel Merino.
Despite winning two of their last three away matches, Ipswich struggled to make an impact in the final stages. Arsenal comfortably held on for the win, even without their star player Bukayo Saka. The result extends their unbeaten record against newly-promoted teams to 42 matches, while Ipswich suffer their fifth Premier League defeat in six matches.
