Brentford extend Brighton's winless streak in stalemate

Brentford earned just their second away point of the season, drawing 0-0 with Brighton & Hove Albion at the Amex Stadium, extending Brighton’s winless run to six matches.

Making his first Premier League start of the season, Julio Enciso nearly put the hosts ahead within four minutes, but his shot hit the post after Brentford goalkeeper Mark Flekken had given away possession. Flekken soon made up for the mistake with a great save from Carlos Baleba’s powerful strike, then easily saved Enciso’s follow-up shot.

At the other end, Yoane Wissa was denied a goal when his finish was ruled offside by VAR. After that, Brentford quickly attacked again, but both Brajan Gruda and Matt O’Riley were blocked in their efforts to score, with O’Riley forcing a good save from Flekken. O’Riley then limped off, adding to Brentford’s growing injury list.

Kaoru Mitoma hit the side netting with the last chance of the first half and had two more shots cleared away after the break. By this point, Brentford, who have lost seven of their eight away league games this season, had gained some momentum. Wissa had one powerful shot blocked and another easily saved, while Christian Nørgaard had a clever scissor kick that went just wide.

As the fog rolled in, many Brighton fans left early, frustrated by their side’s lack of creativity in attack. They missed Solly March making his return after 14 months out with injury, and Bart Verbruggen saving a shot from Mikkel Damsgaard. The match ended 0-0, the second goalless draw between the two teams in 2024, having also drawn 0-0 at the Gtech Community Stadium in April.
