Arsenal have confirmed the appointment of Andrea Berta as their new sporting director, replacing Edu Gaspar, who stepped down in November.
The 53-year-old Italian joins the Gunners permanently and expressed his excitement about the opportunity, saying he has long admired the club’s recent progress and its efforts to return to the top of European football.
Berta said he is looking forward to helping shape Arsenal’s future alongside what he called a “great team” and is eager to experience his first match at the Emirates Stadium.
He was chosen ahead of several strong candidates, including Dan Ashworth and Tomas Rosicky.
Berta previously spent 12 years at Atlético Madrid, playing a key role in building a side that consistently challenged giants Real Madrid and Barcelona in LaLiga.
