In a match played on Sunday at the Gozo Stadium, Marsaxlokk earned a convincing 5-0 win over Melita.
With this result, they bounced back from their previous league defeat, secured a place in the Top 6 for the second phase of the Closing Round, and moved back to the top of the table alongside Birkirkara, Floriana and Mosta.
Marsaxlokk opened the scoring in the 39th minute when Yuri De Jesus Messias won the ball just outside the box and finished into the corner.
In the 57th minute, Marsaxlokk doubled their lead with a penalty by Messias after Ryan Scicluna was fouled by Alan Borg Olivier.
The third goal came in the 73rd minute when Alex De Aguiar tapped in from a Jose Arias pass.
In the 76th minute, Nikolai Muscat scored directly from a free kick, just a minute after Melita were reduced to ten men following Gareth Barone’s red card.
The fifth and final goal arrived in the 84th minute when Leandro Aguirre scored another free kick.
