Italian Carlo Ancelotti expressed his satisfaction after his team’s 2:1 win over Almeria at the start of La Liga.
The decisive goal for Madrid was scored by David Alaba from a free kick in the 75th minute.
“Those who take free kicks are Benzema or Toni (Kross), but Alaba came in and he also takes them well. It wasn’t easy to tell Benzema and Toni that they wouldn’t shoot, but…” Ancelotti said and continued:
“We started the game badly, and then everything got complicated. We weren’t fresh enough to play at a high intensity in attack, and they closed well. We had difficulty breaking through them. In the second half, they got a little tired, and we controlled the game more and created more chances”.
Ancelotti also referred to the young players in the team.
“The younger ones played, as usual, did what they do in training and deserved to play, but on an emotional level, they felt how heavy the Real jersey is. That’s normal. This is a price we are happy to pay because they are very good. I replaced Camavinga because he had a yellow card”.
In the second round, on Saturday at 22:00, Real will visit Celta de Vigo.
