Boston Celtics star Kristaps Porzingis has intensified his training sessions, although coach Joe Mazzulla stated on Wednesday that he is “not sure” if the 7-foot-2 forward will be fit for the NBA Finals opener.
Game 1 of the NBA Finals is scheduled for June 6 in Boston, where they will face either the Dallas Mavericks or the Minnesota Timberwolves. Porzingis has been sidelined since April 29 after straining his soleus muscle during Game 4 of a first-round series against the Miami Heat.
The Celtics are currently enjoying a seven-game winning streak and have achieved a 9-1 record overall since Porzingis was sidelined. Porzingis himself expressed optimism in a post on X, stating “see you in the finals,” as translated from Latvian to English. Al Horford, who played a significant role in the Eastern Conference finals, mentioned he is prepared to do whatever the Celtics require in Porzingis’ absence. Porzingis, at 28 years old, averaged 20.1 points and 7.2 rebounds per game in his 57 starts during the regular season.
