NBA basketball player Enes Kanter Freedom has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2022.
Shortly after learning that he was a nominee, he took to Twitter:
“I am honored and humbled to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize. “Sometimes taking a stand is more important than the next salary,” Enes Freedom wrote.
He also shared an article highlighting his humanitarian work and publicizing human rights violations in China.
Kanter is also a big supporter of the “Free Tibet” movement, which criticizes China and its authorities.
The Turkish NBA star was nominated for this award by a member of the Norwegian parliament, who was supported by 30 Nobel laureates, who in a letter called on Boston, Kanter’s former team, to support him and stand by him.
The Celtics traded him to Houston a week ago, who fired him immediately, so he is currently a free agent.
Freedom has been playing in the NBA for 11 seasons.
