The 41st LifeStar Malta Marathon is gearing up to set a new record for participation. The official press conference will take place on Wednesday, 17 December, at 11:30 am at the Barceló Fortina Hotel in Sliema, where organisers will reveal details of what promises to be a record-breaking edition.
With two months still to go, 4,000 athletes have already signed up, putting the marathon on course to surpass the previous record of 4,400 participants set last February. Projections suggest over 6,000 runners could take part, cementing the Malta Marathon as one of Europe’s most popular and competitive road races.
This surge follows a targeted promotional campaign aimed at key running markets across Europe. British runners continue to make up the largest group of foreign participants, with significant numbers also expected from Poland, Ireland, and other countries.
Last year, 2,700 international tourists, 560 foreign residents, and 1,900 Maltese runners took part. For 2026, organisers expect more than 3,500 international tourists to register.
The Malta Marathon is also expanding competitively. From 2026, it will join the new “Running Europe Tour,” an international circuit linking major European road races through a shared ranking system and high athletic standards.
