The 2026 edition of Il-Ġirja t’Għawdex has marked a historic milestone, attracting a record 1,750 athletes from 57 countries, confirming its status as one of Malta’s premier international running events.
This edition delivered outstanding performances across all race categories. The results are as follows:

Celebrating 51 Editions
Since its inception in 1977, Run Gozo’s Il-Ġirja t’Għawdex has evolved from a local race into an internationally recognised, AIMS-certified event. Known for its demanding course, the race takes participants through Gozo’s unique landscape, combining athletic challenge with scenic beauty.
Community and Organisation
The continued success of the event relies on the unwavering dedication and generosity of its volunteers, whose efforts form the backbone of Il-Ġirja t’Għawdex.
Once again, the race was entirely organised by Run Gozo, a committed volunteer group operating from the Xagħra Youth Centre. Through careful planning, strong teamwork, and tireless effort both in the lead-up to the event and on race day, they ensured the seamless coordination of all aspects of the race—from registration and logistics to safety measures and ongoing support for participating athletes.
The residents of Xagħra and the wider Gozitan community once again played an instrumental role in the event’s success. Their warm hospitality, cooperation, and enthusiasm created a welcoming atmosphere for all participants and visitors. This ensured that athletes experienced not only a well-organised race, but also the unique charm and vibrant community spirit for which Il-Ġirja t’Għawdex is renowned.
