Naxxar Lions FC will make history this evening as they play their first ever UEFA Youth League match on foreign soil. The Maltese side are set to take on Lincoln Red Imps FC at Europa Point Stadium in Gibraltar at 7:00pm in the second leg of the Domestic Champions path first round.
The match represents a significant milestone for Naxxar Lions FC, who are competing in Europe’s elite youth competition for the first time. After losing 2-0 in the opening leg, the Lions now travel abroad with the aim of overturning the deficit and advancing to the next stage of the tournament.
Refereeing team confirmed
The fixture will be officiated by referee Jérémy Muller from Luxembourg, assisted by compatriots Tom Hansen and Johnny Santos. The fourth official is Timothy Reoch from Gibraltar.
Team news and line-ups
Lincoln Red Imps, coached by Ryan Casciaro, start with Smith in goal, supported in defence by Navas, Collado, Garro and Buckley. Midfield responsibilities fall to Montovio, Desoiza and Bousselham, while captain Peacock, L. Chipolina and Avellano provide attacking options.
On the bench, the Gibraltarian side can call upon Lopez, Martinez, Casciaro, Poggio, Rowbottom, Ramirez, Penfold, Chichon and Mifsud.
Naxxar Lions, coached by Etienne Vella, line up with Friggieri in goal behind a defensive unit of Formosa, Parascandolo, Scicluna and captain Genovese. Demicoli, Sciberras and Muscat anchor the midfield, with Abela and Hernandez Reyes supporting Micallef in attack.
Among the substitutes are Caruana, Farrugia, Ciangura, Briffa, Mayo, Borg, Vella Galea and the Mangion brothers.
Milestone moment for Naxxar Lions U19
For Naxxar Lions FC, this is more than just a football match. It is the club’s first ever UEFA Champions League experience at youth level played away from Malta, and a moment of pride for both the players and supporters.
Lincoln Red Imps FC, meanwhile, will look to make home advantage count at the scenic Europa Point Stadium, with the hosts determined to progress further in the competition.
Kick off is scheduled for 7:00pm local time.
