Fourth seed and 2024 Wimbledon runner-up Jasmine Paolini came from a set down to defeat Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 on Monday.
Paolini struggled early on Court 2, making 13 unforced errors and dropping the first set to Sevastova, who was playing her first Wimbledon match since 2021 after returning from maternity leave and injury.

The Italian regained control in the second set as Sevastova began to fade, and after trading breaks, Paolini pulled ahead and levelled the match. Following a medical timeout for her opponent, Paolini dominated the final set, winning three games in a row and sealing the victory.
The 29-year-old will now face Kamilla Rakhimova of Russia in the second round.
