Coco Gauff, currently ranked number three in the world, has split with her coach Matthew Daly just a few days before the US Open begins. This news was shared by ESPN.
Gauff will continue to work with her long-time coach Jean-Christophe Faurel and has also added Gavin MacMillan to her team. MacMillan is a biomechanics expert who previously helped world number one Aryna Sabalenka improve her serve and forehand.
Gauff has had trouble with her own serve recently. At the Canadian Open earlier this month, she made 42 double faults in just three matches. Over the season, she’s made a total of 320 double faults, more than anyone else on tour.
Despite the struggles, Gauff has had a strong year with Daly and Faurel. She won the WTA 1000 China Open, the WTA Finals, and the French Open. However, her recent form has dipped. Since the French Open (Roland Garros), she has only won four singles matches and went out in the first round at Wimbledon.
She was seen training in New York on Wednesday at the Billie Jean King Tennis Center with both Faurel and MacMillan.
The main part of the US Open starts this Sunday. Gauff, who won the tournament last year in 2023, is also set to play in an exhibition match on Thursday night at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
