The second day of racing, at the 2024 FIA Motorsport Games in Valencia, witnessed diverse results, culminating in a notably positive overall outcome for Team Malta.
Despite a significant setback due to a fault in his braking system, Nicky Gauci, a formidable contender in the F4 category, demonstrated remarkable resilience. His performance was hampered, and severe wear and tear on his tyres resulted. However, he managed to finish practice 1 in P12. Even with the heavily worn tyres in practice 2, he didn’t give up, ending his session prematurely but still securing a P19 finish.
In the Karting Endurance, the collective effort of Team Malta, consisting of Micah Scicluna, Ryan Borg, and Ella Zammit, was evident as they secured the 5th position amongst all the countries participating in this discipline.
Jacob Micallef, a promising talent in the Karting Sprint Senior, had a pole position in his group and came 2nd overall. His performance today, starting the manches in P2, gives us hope for his future races.
In Esport, Keith Camilleri faced unexpected challenges as he was taken out during the quarter-final and last-chance races, preventing him from making it to the Semifinals. However, Dean Vella will be competing in the semifinal race today.
Ayrton Jon Tonna, taking part in the Karting Mini, qualified P9 in his group and P17 overall, from 40. Tonna will start with a practice session and then two heats today. He is in group A and will start from P9 in all heats.
Benji Westwood, who participated in the Karting Sprint Junior, qualified P8 in group two, placing him P15 for the heats today.
The overall result for Malta, when considering all the results, is 10th place.
