Reflecting on the experience, Schembri said “It was unfortunate that the race had to be cut short due to the storm, but reaching 97 kilometres in those conditions was still an incredible experience. I’m proud to have represented my Club and Malta in such a prestigious international event and to push my limits on one of Europe’s toughest rowing courses.”

Siġġiewi Rowing Club President commended Schembri for his exceptional effort and the professionalism he displayed throughout the race. “Mark’s performance is a source of national pride. Covering 97 kilometres in an Olympic-type boat — farther than Malta to Sicily — is a testament to his strength and dedication”. The Club President added that Mark’s participation reinforces Malta’s growing presence in the international rowing community and serves as an inspiration for future Maltese athletes and para athletes.

Mark’s participation in this race was made possible through the financial support received from SportMalta through their 2025 International Participation Scheme. This support is essential to enable local rowers in their pursuit of excellence and to promote modern rowing in Malta.
