Koller and Schroll achieve success in the Malta Junior Open

Swiss golfer Yves Koller and Austrian player Katharina Schroll won the sixth edition of the Malta Junior Open organized by the Maltese Golf Association at the Royal Malta Golf Club.

Koller and Schroll were the most consistent throughout the three days of play which were characterized by difficult weather conditions with rain and strong winds.

A total of 99 players from 22 different countries took part in this tournament, six of whom were Maltese golfers. This competition contained three categories, that of under 16 years, under 18 years and under 21 years.

In the men’s under-16 category, Noah Gratil made a great comeback where on the last day he got the necessary points to jump into first place followed by Constatin Bauer and Alexander Vagimov.

Meanwhile, Elena Duduleanu won the women’s category followed by Emma Viscovich and Alicja Herbik. At the same time the player with Maltese descent Eliana Buhagiar finished in fourth place.

In the men’s under-18 competition, Yves Koller from Switzerland was better than Denmark’s Alexander Viscovich who finished second with Frenchman Albertic Le Bos-Niclot finishing third.

From the same age category there was a huge success for Katharina Schroll who remained consistent throughout the three days of play and finished ahead of her compatriot Johanna Janisch and the German Mila Tang.

In the men’s under-21 category it was Timotej Formanek who came first ahead of Maxime Lam and Matyas Vysusil.

In the women’s competition, Laura Mizlerova passed Nela Travnickova who finished in second place and Zsofia Foldhazi Nagy who finished in third place.

One particular award was won by a Maltese golfer as Mark Ganado got the best net score during the three days. Finally in the Stableford competition, another Maltese Alex Ganado emerged victorious in front of Alex Mece and Antonio Bianco.

The presentation of the awards were made by MGA president William Beck, MGA General Secretary Doreen Balzan and RMGC Captain Jay Jay Micallef.
