Swieqi United will officially be crowned league champions this Saturday as they play their final match of the season against Hibernians.
Coach Dorianne Theuma’s team secured the title last weekend with an impressive 3-0 win over Birkirkara, giving them an eight-point lead with one game to go.
This is Theuma’s first league title as a senior coach, just a year after she retired from playing.
Swieqi have been dominant all season, scoring 59 goals and letting in only 12 – the best defensive record in the league. They’ve also kept three clean sheets in a row going into this last match.
Hibernians, on the other hand, come into the game after a disappointing result. Their loss to Mġarr United saw them drop to fourth place with 39 points.
Mġarr are now level on points with Birkirkara, and the two teams will face each other as they both fight for second place before focusing on the domestic cup.
In the Bottom Four, San Ġwann will play Valletta. All eyes will be on Hailey Russell, who is just three goals away from hitting 30 for the 2024/25 season.
