Max Verstappen has said he regrets how he reacted during the Spanish Grand Prix earlier this year. He was told by Red Bull to give his position back to George Russell after going wide, but after complying, he quickly closed the door again, causing contact.
He received a 10-second penalty, dropping him from fifth to tenth, and picked up penalty points that nearly led to a race ban. Verstappen said he acted out of frustration and care, but looking back, he knows it “was not OK.”
He is currently 24 points behind in the championship. Despite McLaren’s disqualification in Las Vegas giving him a boost, he said that if he loses the title, it won’t be because of the Barcelona incident but the team’s overall performance throughout the season.
