Piastri wins Spanish Grand Prix as Verstappen drops to tenth after penalty

Oscar Piastri claimed his fifth win of the 2025 F1 season by taking victory at the Spanish Grand Prix, extending his lead in the championship.

Starting from pole, Piastri kept control of the race despite a late safety car, eventually finishing ahead of McLaren teammate Lando Norris. Charles Leclerc took third place after Max Verstappen made mistakes in the final laps and was later given a 10-second penalty for a collision with George Russell.

Verstappen had a tough race, struggling for grip early on and clashing with Russell after a confusing radio message. The penalty dropped him from fifth to tenth. Nico Hulkenberg was promoted to fifth after a strong final stint.

Lewis Hamilton finished sixth, followed by Isack Hadjar, Pierre Gasly, and Fernando Alonso, who scored his first points of the season.

It was a brilliant 1-2 finish for McLaren, with Piastri now leading the standings with 186 points, followed by Norris on 176 and Verstappen on 137.
