Marsaxlokk and Valletta shared the points in a 1-1 draw at the National Stadium, with both goals arriving early in the second half. The result was enough for Valletta to secure their place in the top six for the next phase of the YoHealth Malta Premier closing round, where they will now set their sights on European qualification.
The first half passed without a goal, but the second half came to life quickly. Marsaxlokk took the lead on 53 minutes when Ulises Arias picked up a loose ball from the Valletta defence, drove forward and finished into the net.
Valletta were not behind for long however, drawing level less than two minutes later. A cross from Yuri Messias found Andrea Zammit unmarked inside the box, and the forward rose unchallenged to head the ball through the legs of goalkeeper Mafoumbi and restore parity.
Neither side could find a winner after that, and the match ended all square. With Marsaxlokk already guaranteed their place in the top six heading into the game, it was Valletta who had the most to celebrate, sealing the finish they needed to join their opponents in the next phase.
