Matchday 3 of the YoHealth Malta Premier comes to a close this evening at 20:30 at the Tony Bezzina Stadium, where Sliema Wanderers take on Tarxien Rainbows in a highly anticipated clash.
Paul Zammit’s side will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Mosta before the international break. Despite dominating large spells of the match and creating several scoring opportunities, Sliema were unable to convert their chances, thanks in large part to an outstanding performance by Mosta goalkeeper Udoh Akpan, who kept the Blues at bay with a string of crucial saves.
Tarxien Rainbows, meanwhile, have collected just one point from their opening two fixtures, but their performances have been far from discouraging. Against title contenders Ħamrun Spartans and Floriana, Jacques Scerri’s men showed grit, organisation, and a clear intent to compete, proving they are not a team to be taken lightly.
During the international break, Tarxien bolstered their squad with the addition of Nigerian winger Ofufu Ibeh. The versatile attacker, who can also operate as a striker, is expected to add more depth and attacking threat to Scerri’s squad.
The last time these two sides met was back in the 2020/21 season, when Sliema Wanderers claimed a 2-0 victory courtesy of a brace from Jean Paul Farrugia.
