On Monday evening, Naxxar Lions delivered an outstanding performance to defeat Melita 3-0, securing their second win of the season. George Vella’s team had been struggling to regain the form they displayed last season.
Naxxar took the lead in the 7th minute with a close-range strike from Nikolai Micallef. In the 24th minute, Melita had a chance to equalize when they were awarded a penalty, but Andre Carlos’ attempt hit the post, and the first half ended 1-0 in favor of the Lions.
In the 67th minute, Naxxar extended their lead when they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Gustavo Barbosa. Caxumbu stepped up and calmly converted from 11 meters, making it 2-0.
Naxxar sealed the victory in the 86th minute when Henrique Motta scored an own goal after a shot from Marcelino, ensuring a 3-0 win for the Lions.
