Chelsea’s legendary defender Thiago Silva has voiced his concerns over the club’s transfer strategy since the arrival of a new ownership group led by Todd Boehly.
With over £600m spent on new players since the end of May, the Brazilian feels that the club has taken “an incorrect step” in the transfer market.
Chelsea’s recent performance in the Champions League and Premier League has been less than satisfactory, with their elimination from the top-tier European competition signaling a need for change. Currently sitting in 11th place in the Premier League table, the team would need to win all of their remaining matches to have any chance of qualifying for the Europa Conference League.

Silva believes that the club’s recent struggles can be attributed to a lack of responsibility from the ownership group. He pointed out that the club has undergone a lot of changes, including a new ownership, new players, and an increased squad size, which has resulted in a period of indecision.
Despite the challenges, Silva remains optimistic about the potential of the squad, noting the presence of some amazing players. However, he also acknowledges that not everyone can play, and there will always be players who are unhappy.
Looking forward, the Brazilian believes that a change in strategy is needed to avoid making the same mistakes next season. With Silva’s contract extended until 2024, he remains committed to the club, but he hopes that the ownership group will take a more thoughtful approach to future transfers and team building.
