Birżebbuġa St. Peter’s have officially welcomed coach Edgar Degabriele to their ranks, as he begins a new chapter in his coaching career. Degabriele, who brings extensive experience in Maltese football, resigned from his role as assistant coach at Tarxien Rainbows in the Challenge League earlier this week to transition to the National Amateur League 1 team.
Earlier this week, MaltaSport exclusively revealed that Degabriele would be making the move to Birżebbuġa after Edward Azzopardi has stepped down as head coach of Birżebbuġa St. Peter’s FC following a heavy 5-0 defeat against Xgħajra Tornados in Amateur League 1.
The appointment marks a significant step for the club, as they look to benefit from the seasoned coach’s track record of success, including leading teams to multiple promotions in the Maltese football divisions. Degabriele will have to work hard since sources within the club have reported that the club is facing financial difficulties in recent months, coupled with internal unrest. Sources within the club suggest that these challenges have added further pressure on the team’s performance and overall stability.
Degabriele’s managerial journey has seen him take charge of various clubs, including Marsaxlokk, Żebbuġ Rangers, Gudja United, St. George’s, and Senglea Athletic, over the years. His ability to build competitive squads has earned him a strong reputation, and his addition to Birżebbuġa is expected to bolster their aspirations for the season ahead.
