In the past few hours, the death of Robert Farrugia, President of Msida St. Joseph Football Club, aged 55, has been announced.
Farrugia first became President of Msida St. Joseph in June 2007, but over the years he also served in other leadership roles within the club’s committee. He was always loyal to the club and led Msida St. Joseph in various divisions, including when they played in the top tier of Maltese football.
Farrugia served as President of Msida St. Joseph during two separate periods of his administrative career in football. The first period was from the 2007/08 season until 2011/12. In the following seasons, although Farrugia was no longer the President, he remained on the Msida committee and held various leadership roles including Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer of the club.
From the 2017/18 season until recently, Farrugia returned as President of the club. This second term was particularly challenging for the club, and his wise leadership was crucial in keeping the club competing in the higher divisions of Maltese football.
In recent years, Farrugia also served as the club delegate for Msida St. Joseph and was part of the MFA Council.
Farrugia is the father of former Maltese under-21 national team player Tyrone Farrugia and the official and team manager of Mosta FC, Adrian Farrugia.
