The BOV Premier League returned this weekend for another round of matches with the title now a clear two way fight between Hamrun Spartans and Floriana. The latter recorded an easy victory over Mosta to the tune of four goals to nil whilst Hamrun only managed to eke past Gzira United with a goal right at the end of the first half to keep pace on the Greens at the top. Luis Furtado scored a brace for Floriana whilst Hamrun’s deciding goal was scored by Drko Prsa.
In other results, Valletta had a setback to their fading hopes in avoiding relegation when they drew 2-2 with Hibernians. Marsaxlokk easily beat Santa Lucia in the Friday night fixture by a 3-0 scoreline whilst Sliema Wanderers and Balzan shared the spoils in 1-1 draw. Sirens registered a shock victory over Naxxar Lions by two goals to one to dent the latter’s hopes of a European place. Birkirkara beat Gudja by two goals to nil to also advance their hopes of a European spot next season.
Floriana are top of the table with 57 points closely followed by Hamrun Spartans on 55 points. Sliema Wanderers are on 43 points followed by Marsaxlokk in fourth place on 37 points.
